MCAS Yuma Welcomes Col. David J. Bennett During Change of Command Ceremony

Marine Corps Air Station Yuma welcomed new leadership on July 17, 2026, as Col. Jared K. Stone formally transferred command of the installation to Col. David J. Bennett during a traditional change of command ceremony.

The ceremony marked the conclusion of Col. Stone’s three-year tenure as commanding officer and the beginning of a new chapter for one of the Marine Corps’ most important aviation training installations. Military change of command ceremonies formally recognize the transfer of authority, responsibility and accountability from an outgoing commander to an incoming commander.

During his outgoing remarks, Col. Stone recognized the Marines, sailors, civilian employees and contractors who support the air station’s daily operations and training mission. He highlighted the considerable responsibility involved in maintaining the installation’s facilities, approximately two million acres of airspace and 1.2 million acres of ground training ranges.

Col. Stone also emphasized the central role MCAS Yuma plays in preparing Marines for operations around the world. Its extensive airspace, ranges and year-round flying conditions make the installation a critical training destination for Marine Corps aviation units and an increasingly important resource for ground-based Marines.

Col. Bennett assumes command following nearly 28 years of service in the Marine Corps. In his remarks, he expressed gratitude to the mentors and senior leaders who supported him throughout his career and said he was honored to again have the opportunity to lead the Marines, sailors, civilian employees and contractors serving at MCAS Yuma.

The ceremony also featured a performance by the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing Band, continuing the military traditions associated with the formal transfer of command.

Continuing a Strong Military-Community Partnership

MCAS Yuma is deeply connected to the Greater Yuma community. In addition to supporting national defense and military readiness, the installation contributes to the region’s economy, workforce and identity. The Marines, sailors, civilian employees, contractors and military families associated with the air station are valued members of the Yuma community.

Yuma 50 extends its sincere appreciation to Col. Stone for his leadership, service and commitment to MCAS Yuma and the Greater Yuma region. The organization also congratulates Col. Bennett and welcomes him to his new leadership role.

As MCAS Yuma continues its vital mission of preparing the next generation of Marines, Yuma 50 remains committed to advocating for the installation, strengthening relationships between military and civilian leaders and supporting the service members and families who call the Yuma region home.
