WHO WE ARE

A united effort of Yuma County to support our military assets and make our voices heard.

America’s armed forces deliver a huge economic benefit to our community. Yuma County’s military assets provide tens of thousands of jobs and pump over a billion dollars into our economy every year. However, this could be at serious risk due to the actions of our federal government, including sequestration, predicted budget cuts, and the uncertain future of military bases.

Yuma 50 is a community outreach and education campaign that brings together a broad group of community and civic leaders, businesses, organizations, military support groups, and private citizens from all political affiliations. Yuma 50 wants to send a loud and clear message to Washington that this community is fully behind its military bases and personnel and supports all future missions that the Department of Defense deems best suited for Marine Corps Air Station Yuma and Yuma Proving Ground. Declared “the state’s largest and most important employer” by Dennis L. Hoffman, Professor of Economics, W.P. Carey School of Business, Arizona State University, the Department of Defense is the lifeblood of Arizona and Yuma County.

OUR MISSION

The Yuma 50, as set forth in its Articles of Incorporation, includes, without limitation, promoting social welfare by developing and advocating for legislation, public policy, and government programs that will maintain the viability of our two military installations, Marine Corps Air Station Yuma (MCAS) and Yuma Proving Ground (YPG), build and sustain community support of such military installations, and contribute to the economic well-being of Southwestern Arizona by building public awareness, knowledge and support of these purposes.
